Riaz Waqar is an Associate Professor at Nanfang College Guangzhou. Currently his duties include teaching courses, supervision of graduation thesis and research projects and publications. He earned his PhD in Communication and Information Engineering from Chongqing University of Posts and Telecommunications and his Master’s degree from Xi’an Jiaotong University. He received full scholarships for both degrees and earned several academic honors. Received Chinese Permanent Residence (Talent based Channel).

Before joining Guangzhou Nanfang College, his prior experience includes a postdoctoral position at the Shenzhen Institute of Advanced Technology, Chinese Academy of Sciences jointly with Shenzhen Polytechnic University where he led a Postdoc Startup project on Patient emotion recognition for intelligent healthcare. His industry experience includes work as a Senior Technical Engineer at CALB-中创新航, where he played his part in computer vision systems for battery manufacturing quality control. He also co founded AURORA Co,. Ltd, a company that designs optical and AI based inspection solutions for intelligent manufacturing.

His research interests include, Computer Vision in smart healthcare, industrial defect detection, and video based accident prediction. He has published multiple journal and conference papers and serves as a reviewer and invited editor for reputed SCI journals.
